SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Roadrunners defeated Texas State 18-13 on Tuesday, Apr. 29, at Bobcat Ballpark in San Marcos, Texas.

Texas State took an early lead in the first as they were able to score one run on a groundout to the third baseman. The Texas State lead did not last long as Jordan Ballin got the first Roadrunner hit of the day on a single to the left side. Drew Detlefsen then picked up his 12th homer of the season to right field to put UTSA up 2-1 in the second.
Caden Miller followed the homer up with a double to left centerfield. The designated hitter, Garrett Gruell, drew a walk to put two aboard. Leadoff hitter, Mason Lytle, in his second at-bat swung on the first pitch he saw, launching the ball over the centerfielder’s head to drive in Miller, giving UTSA a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Texas State took an 8-3 lead, scoring seven runs.
That lead didn’t last long as James Taussig led the third off with a homer, his fourth in the last four games. Ty Hodge followed that up with a homer of his own. With two runners on, Miller singled down the left field line to score Ballin, who reached on a single.
Gruell then singled to centerfield, scoring Detlefsen, who reached on a walk. Lytle hit the Roadrunners’ third consecutive RBI single, scoring Miller and tying the game a 8-8. Norris McClure gave the Roadrunners the lead as he doubled to left center to score Gruell.
With bases loaded, Taussig then drove in two runs on a single to center field, his second hit of the third inning. Hodge got a hold of his second RBI of the inning, driving in Andrew Stucky, who reached on a walk, on a sacrifice fly. With bases loaded, Gruell was hit by the pitch to give the Roadrunners their 10th run of the inning and 13th run of the game.
At the bottom of the third, Texas State added four runs to make the score 13-12 in UTSA’s favor.
After three scoreless innings from both teams, the Roadrunners got back to scoring in the top of the seventh. Hodge drew a lead-off walk before being advanced to third on a double from Detlefsen. Miller got his second double of the night, driving in both Detlefsen and Hodge.
Gruell grounded out, advancing Miller to third. Lytle then legged out an infield single hit deep into the six-hole, allowing Miller to score, putting UTSA up 16-12. In the bottom half of the seventh, Texas State added a run on a sacrifice fly.
In the ninth, the Roadrunners were able to get two more runs as Diego Diaz and Stucky both drew a walk with bases loaded.
