Lenton, Robillard lead way as ‘Runners best Islanders, 8-2

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team picked up an 8-2 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday, with senior Camryn Robillard launching a home run and sophomore Madison Lenton driving in three in nonconference action at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners (19-28, 4-17 The American) bested the Islanders (11-34, 4-20 Southland) as UTSA’s 19th win of the season represents the most since the 2019 campaign. Freshman Ava Eldridge (6-8) scattered three hits across five innings for the win, while Holly Ayala (1-4) was handed the loss.

Robillard had a 2-for-3 afternoon with a pair of RBIs, and Lenton also logged multiple hits with a bases-clearing double, landing her a trio of RBIs. Additionally, sophomore Kalee Rochinski and freshman Sabrina Wick each had a pair of base knocks, and Rochinski plated a run.

UTSA started off hot, with a newcomer, Skylar Rucker, walking and stealing to open the bottom of the first. A line drive for Wick followed, scoring her, and a later miscue pushed Wick across for a 2-0 lead.

The ‘Runners exploded for six runs in the third, as a Rochinski double knocked in Wick, and walks for junior Katia Reyes and classmate Madison Hornback loaded up the bases. A Lenton two-bagger followed, driving in all three, and a Robillard home run delivered an 8-0 UTSA edge.

TAMUCC avoided the run rule with a solo home run in the fifth, and they added another in the sixth to work an 8-2 score line. Sophomore Meredith Schmitt then found the final out, securing the victory.

UTSA will remain at Roadrunner Field, facing Tarleton on Wednesday at 6 p.m., ahead of a three-game American Athletic Conference series against Tulsa beginning Friday.
