SAN ANTONIO — UTSA dominated Tulane 25-7 in the rubber match for their fifth consecutive American Athletic Conference series win on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas.

Tulane struck first in the first inning as they were able to score on a passed ball. UTSA tied it up in the bottom half of the first as Jordan Ballin drew a five-pitch walk with bases loaded. In the second, Tulane scored on an RBI double and a two-RBI home run to go up 4-1.
In the bottom of the second, the Roadrunners put up 11 runs. Norris McClure got the scoring going as he blasted a three-run homer to tie the game. Ty Hodge drove in the fourth run of the inning on a bases-loaded walk.
Diego Diaz stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and delivered a grand slam for UTSA’s second homer of the inning. McClure grabbed his second home run of the inning, this time scoring two. Mason Lytle capped off the home run cycle as he launched a solo homer to left field for the Roadrunners’ fourth homer of the inning.
In the third, Diaz singled through the right side to score the 13th run of the game. With the bases loaded, McClure walked for UTSA’s second run of the inning. Lytle singled up the middle, driving in the third run of the inning and the Roadrunners’ 15th run.
In the fourth, Diaz drew a bases-loaded walk for the first run of the inning. Detlefsen reached on a fielder’s choice, which scored Ballin. McClure stayed hot at the plate as he singled to right field, scoring the third run in the fourth. Lytle followed that up with an RBI single to give UTSA a 19-4 lead going into the fifth.
In the fifth, Tulane scored its first run since the second inning on a sacrifice fly. UTSA kept the pressure on as Diaz picked up a two-RBI single up the middle. Drew Detlefsen then singled down the left field line, scoring one run. McClure followed that up with another RBI single.
James Taussig hit a single to left field to score another run. Broc Parmer got his first RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly for UTSA’s sixth run of the inning and 25th run of the game. Tulane was able to score one run in the sixth and one run in the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The 25 runs were UTSA’s season high.
- UTSA also had 25 RBIs, which is a season high.
- This was the second time the Roadrunners have hit four homers in a single game.
- UTSA drew a season high 15 walks.
- Both Diaz and McClure recorded eight RBIs, which is just one RBI short of tying the program record.
