SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s tennis team (7-9) celebrated a win in its first match on the home courts at UTSA Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon, battling back from a doubles deficit to claim a 5-2 victory over Abilene Christian (11-8).
Despite close action in the doubles portion, the Wildcats came out on top and clinched their first point with wins on courts three and two.
However, the Roadrunners were quick to counter in singles action with the eldest Roadrunners leading the way, as senior Danijal Muminovic laid down a quick straight-set 6-2, 6-2 victory over Merse Deli on court two, tying the match. Classmate Miguel Alonso rapidly followed, besting Alejandro Verdasco on court six, 6-3, 6-4, pushing the Roadrunners in front. Closing out on an extended second set, the third senior, Tiago Torres pushed past Daniel Morozov on the top flight with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win, paving the way for freshman Enzo Vargas to finish off Tomas Tischner to clinch the match for UTSA. One more point for the Roadrunners was delivered by Oskar Grzegorzewski in a tiebreak, outlasting Dennis Dutine, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 1-0 (6) for the 5-2 final.
