About the Roadrunners
The Roadrunners split their last weekend with a grinding 4-3 neutral-site victory over Northern Arizona in Albuquerque, but couldn’t put the points together against the host, No. 67 New Mexico on Sunday. Coming into the week at 6-9 in the first season under Sasha Gozun, the Roadrunners are playing at home for the first time in over a month – set to play three of their next five in San Antonio, leading up to a March 13th senior day against Grand Canyon.
Senior Danijal Muminovic and freshman Oskar Grzegorzewski top the Roadrunners in win counts at 6-5 and 6-4, respectively. The 96th-ranked ITA player, senior Tiago Torres holds a 5-4 record heading into the weekend. In doubles play, it’s Torres and classmate Miguel Alonso topping the list with a 4-2 record on the year.
About the Abilene Christian Wildcats
Entering the weekend at 11-7 under fifth-year head coach Juan Nuñez, the Wildcats dropped a sweep at Texas Tech on Tuesday, coming off back-to-back victories over Lehigh and UT Permian Basin. After falling to power and ranked programs in the first four of the season, ACU reeled off a seven-match win streak that ran into late February.
Series between these teams
This will be the 16th overall meeting between these teams, the series dating back to the 1982 season. Abilene Christian holds the slight edge at 8-7, while UTSA leads 5-4 in San Antonio. UTSA has won the past two outings, including a 4-3 victory in 2022 in Abilene and the last ACU trip to San Antonio in 2021, which ended in a 7-0 Roadrunners sweep.
Up Next
After facing the Wildcats on Saturday, UTSA will travel next week to Houston to take on a pair of American Athletic Conference foes in non-conference action. The Roadrunners will meet Charlotte on Saturday, April 5 in a neutral match at Rice, following up the next day with the homestanding Owls on Sunday.
