'Runners to host No. 22 Owls for Strike Out Cancer Weekend

UTSA will host Florida Atlantic from Friday through Sunday at Roadrunner Field

SAN ANTONIO—The UTSA softball team is set to host No. 22 Florida Atlantic across Strike Out Cancer Weekend at Roadrunner Field in American Athletic Conference action spanning Friday through Sunday.

The 'Runners and Owls will first meet on Friday with a Pink Out contest slated for 6 p.m., ahead of Saturday's Strikeout Ovarian Cancer game at noon. The finale is scheduled for Sunday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. on Cancer Awareness Day.

The Roadrunners (14-16, 2-7 The American) will be back in action after a pair of midweek contests against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas State were postponed due to weather. UTSA will look to get back to .500 on the year after taking one of three off Wichita State last time out.

Redshirt freshman Makayla Madrid was solid for the squad, drilling a pair of home runs and posting a team-high six RBIs for an OPS of 1.743. Junior Katia Reyes and freshman Skylar Rucker also impressed, with Reyes posting a .667 batting average and plating five, while Rucker hit .571.

The Owls (29-5, 8-1 The American) were riding an 11-game winning streak before falling to Charlotte in the series finale last time out. They sit atop the league with an 8-1 mark in AAC play and boast one of the top defenses in the NCAA with a .981 fielding percentage, ranking sixth. They're ninth with 59 doubles in the year, and 297 total hits are 17th.

Bella Foran has been dominant for the squad, with a .480 batting average ranked 19th across the NCAA, and her 47 hits are 14th. Aisley Lambert leads the nation in saves with seven, and her 0.82 ERA is seventh. Not far behind, Autumn Courtney holds a 0.91 ERA that checks in at 22nd. Additionally, the pair sit first and second on The American leader board.
