CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Roadrunners take home their first American Athletic Conference series win defeating Charlotte 6-5 on Sunday, Mar. 23 at Hayes Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.

UTSA jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the second thanks to Diego Diaz who drove in Andrew Stucky on a single to left center. This was Diaz’s first RBI of the season. With runners on first and third, Jordan Ballin laid down a safety bunt scoring Lorenzo Morresi who reached on a single.
Charlotte knotted the game up in the bottom half of the second on a two-run homer.
In the top of the fourth, Ballin grabbed the lead for the Roadrunners as he hit an RBI single up the middle scoring Diaz. Lytle came up big for UTSA by launching a ball over the left field wall to give the Roadrunners a 5-2 lead.
In the fifth, Charlotte got two runs back on a passed ball and a sacrifice bunt. Conor Myles was the starting pitcher for the rubber match. Myles pitched 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts.
In the eighth, the 49ers were able to tie the ball game with a solo homer. The lead didn’t last long as James Taussig mashed a double in the top of the ninth scoring Caden Miller who reached on a single.
Orloski came into the game in place of Myles and dealt as he threw 4.2 innings, giving up just one hit and one run with two strikeouts.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Roadrunners are now 6-6 in road games.
- They are also 4-1 in one-run games.
- UTSA is 9-3 when their opponents score 3-5 runs.
- Lytle had a 2-for-5 day with two RBIs for his 15th multi-hit game and 10th multi-RBI game of the season.
