ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The UTSA men’s tennis team (6-9) couldn’t get any traction on the road at Mckinnon Family Tennis Stadium on Sunday afternoon, succumbing to a sweep by the hosting 67th-ranked New Mexico Lobos (9-5), 7-0.
Although Ben Chetewy Ungar and Oskar Grzegorzewski strung out an extended doubles set on the second court that halted at 3-3, the Lobos struck early with a 6-3 win on one and a clinching 6-2 win on three. In singles play, Chetewy Ungar went up early, but New Mexico captured all six first-set wins and powered to a 6-0 start. Holding out for the last potential point to go UTSA’s way, Chetewy Ungar evened the court five match on an extended second-set tiebreaker, but ultimately fell to a 6-4, 6-7 (10), 1-0 (7) setback against Daniil Kakhniuk.
The Roadrunners split the weekend in New Mexico after defeating Northern Arizona on Saturday, 4-3.
