UTSA drops series to No. 20 Dallas Baptist

DALLAS — The Roadrunners fall to No. 20 Dallas Baptist 14-4 in seven innings on Sunday, Mar. 16 at Horner Ballpark in Dallas Texas, this is the Roadrunners second series loss of the season.

THE BASICS:

The Roadrunners started the game off right, where they left off from yesterday’s game. Caden Miller led the inning off with a walk. Mason Lytle then drove him to third on a double. James Taussig got his first RBI of the game with a ground out to first scoring Miller. With Lytle on third, Drew Detlefsen hit a line drive over the head of DBU’s shortstop allowing Lytle to score.

DBU took the lead in the bottom of the first scoring six runs. DBU started the scoring with an RBI double, leading to an RBI single. A wild pitch scored the third run of the inning. Another run came across on a throwing error. Closing the inning with two more RBI singles.  

Starting pitcher Conor Myles was unable to make it out of the first inning as Connor Kelley came in to get the last out of the first inning.

In the third inning, the Roadrunners cut DBU’s lead to two as Detlefsen picked up his second RBI of the day on a single through the left side scoring Taussig who reached on a walk. Lorenzo Morresi drove in Norris McClure who reached on a single. DBU added another run in the bottom of the third on a throwing error making the score 7-4.

The Roadrunners went scoreless in the next four innings as DBU kept adding to their lead. In the fourth, the Patriots had another six-run inning scoring on a three-run home run and a three-RBI double. To secure the run rule, DBU hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.

Five different Roadrunners were featured on the mound for UTSA, with Sam Simmons going the longest with 1.2 innings. Simmons gave up one run and two hits on the day.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- McClure had a 2-for-4 day for his seventh multi-hit game of the season.
- Detlefsen had two hits and drove in two runs for his 10th multi-hit game and ninth multi-RBI game.
- Morresi picked up his fourth multi-hit game of the season.
- McClure is now on a three-game hit streak, which is the longest on the team.
- Miller has reached base safely in 18 straight games.
