SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s tennis team (3-3) is set to knock out the second and third matches of the current homestand with Florida Atlantic (1-6) on Friday morning at 11 a.m., and Wichita State (3-5) on Sunday at 11 a.m. Recent weather shifts will also be on the radar, literally, as potential inclement weather has already affected the FAU match and could produce further schedule changes. Though both teams are fellow American Athletic Conference members, both matches will be non-conference contests.

About the Roadrunners
The UTSA Roadrunners won three consecutive outings to build a 3-1 start to the first season under head coach Sasha Gozun, defeating UT Rio Grande Valley and UT Arlington, and Denver. However, UTSA has seen setbacks in the past two matchups, at Oregon and a marathon rain-delayed 4-3 grinder with Texas Tech at home that came down to a pair of third-set singles points. UTSA features one pair in the doubles national ITA rankings, as Miguel Alonso and Tiago Torres come in at 77th in the national standings and the pair are 1-0 through the early spring season. Torres also just joined the national singles rankings at 103rd in the Feb. 20 announcement from the ITA.
Leading the Roadrunners in singles play are newcomer Oskar Grzegorzewski on court three and senior Danijal Muminovic on two, both sporting a 4-1 record in singles action. Torres also enters the weekend at 3-2. In doubles play, Muminovic and newcomer Enzo Vargas are 3-2 so far.
About the Florida Atlantic Owls
Frequently appearing in the national rankings, including a No. 45 final ranking in 2024, the Owls have seen a challenging 1-7 start to the 13th year under director of tennis Ricardo Gonzalez. The lone win was a 4-0 sweep at North Florida, but the Owls have since dropped the last two home matches to South Florida and UC Santa Barbara and then one on the road Thursday at Rice. Playing four matches away from Boca Raton, the Owls are 1-3 in away and neutral matchups.
Pacing the Owls in the early season, Czech freshman Jan Kusy has collected a 5-2 record, largely on court four. Also from the Czech Republic, sophomore Simon Myslivec returns from a doubles-heavy rookie campaign and has a 4-2 start to 2025 on the bottom two courts. In doubles action, Lucca Pignaton and Segundo Goity Zapico pace FAU with a 4-3 record on the third court.
About the Wichita State Shockers
Set to play at UIW on Saturday, the Shockers earned a 5-2 win at home over Denver to snap a three-match losing skid. Wichita State also holds wins over Drake and Omaha toward its 3-5 start to the third season under coach Darragh Glavin. Only taking on three road matches to date, the Shockers are looking for their first win away from Wichita in 2025.
Junior Alejandro Jacome and redshirt junior Kristof Minarik pace the Shockers with matching 5-3 singles starts to the year, repping court three and two, respectively. English freshman Ilias Worthington has made a solid collegiate start at 5-2 while splitting time between courts four and five. Jacome and Minarik are also the top doubles pair on the top flight, registering a 5-3 start to 2025.
Series Against the Opposition
UTSA is playing Florida Atlantic for the eighth time – the Owls holding a 5-2 advantage and the Roadrunners capturing both wins in 2023, first during the regular season, 4-2, then in the Conference USA Championships, with UTSA securing the 4-3 victory to move on to the title match. Last season, the Roadrunners met the 41st-ranked Owls in Boca Raton with a 4-1 setback.
Meeting the Shockers for the third consecutive season, UTSA is 2-7 all-time against Wichita State after capturing the 4-2 win last Feb. 18 to make it two straight UTSA victories. In the prior meeting, Feb. 26, 2023, UTSA delivered a commanding 4-0 sweep over the then-No. 66 Shockers in San Antonio.
Up Next
The Roadrunners will head to the southwest next weekend, competing in the Diablos College Invitational in Tempe, Arizona, Feb. 28-March 1, alongside Arizona State, Arizona, Washington, Utah State, Boise State, Liberty and Pacific (OR).
