UTSA notches first win of 2025 season

ARLINGTON, Texas— The Roadrunners pick up their first win of the 2025 season by beating UT Arlington 6-3 on Sunday, Feb. 16 in Arlington, Texas at Clay Gould Ballpark. 

THE BASICS:

The Roadrunners got the runs started early as Tye Odom knocked a single to right center field to score Mason Lytle standing on third. Lytle reached on a fielder’s choice and was advanced to third on a James Taussig single.

The lefty Conor Myles got the nod on the mound and went to work early as he sat down the first three batters, recording two strikeouts.

In the top of the fifth, the Roadrunners added another to the board thanks to Mason Lytle, who hit a line drive just out of the reach of the shortstop, scoring Ty Hodge.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Mavericks threatened with bases loaded when head coach Pat Hallmark decided to turn to sophomore Robert Orloski, who managed to strike out the next two batters to end the inning. Myles’ day closed with 4.1 innings pitched, allowing two hits with three strikeouts.

UT Arlington managed to take the lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh on two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.

Down to their final six outs, Odom got his second RBI of the day on a single to left field, scoring Drew Detlefsen. With two runners on, freshman Caden Miller hit the first home run of the season to put the runners up 6-3.

Orloski kept the Mavericks at bay in the final two innings as he would be rewarded the win going 4.2 innings pitched, allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Norris McClure continues to dominate at the plate as he went 2-for-5 in his third straight multi-hit game.
- Drew Detlefsen, James Taussig and Andrew Stucky had one hit on the day.
- Mason Lytle, Caden Miller, Tye Odom, and Lorenzo Morressi all had two hits.
- Miller recorded three RBIs, Odom had two and Lytle had one.
- Through the three-game series, the Roadrunners’ pitching staff only walked one batter.
