HAMMOND, La. – The UTSA softball team wrapped up Day One of the 2025 Lion Classic on Friday, first falling 7-1 to South Dakota before suffering a 5-0 defeat at the hands of host school Southeastern Louisiana at North Oak Park.

The Roadrunners (5-2) will look to bounce back on Saturday as they face the Coyotes once more at 11 a.m., ahead of a 1 p.m. bout with Mississippi Valley State.

UTSA vs. South Dakota

South Dakota dealt UTSA their first loss of the campaign as Clara Edwards (3-0) picked up the 7-1 victory, and freshman Kaylie Olivarez (0-1) got tagged with the loss.

Newcomer Sabrina Wick picked up the ‘Runners lone RBI, while classmate Skylar Rucker and seniors Crislyne Moreno, Jaylen Prichard and Camryn Robillard all logged hits.

South Dakota picked up a run in the first, and a crooked number in the second saw a quick 3-0 advantage.

Freshman Ava Eldridge tossed scoreless innings in the third and the fourth before UTSA broke through in the top of the fifth. Robillard legged out an infield single and swiped second before advancing to third on a sophomore Taryn Madlock sacrifice. An RBI groundout by Wick allowed Robillard to dent the plate and pull the Roadrunners within two.

The Coyotes answered with a run in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to go up 7-1, a deficit UTSA was unable to recover from.

UTSA at Southeastern Louisiana

The Lions got the better of the Roadrunners, 5-0, as redshirt sophomore Madison Collins (0-1) got tagged with the loss, while Macie LaRue (3-0) earned the win.

Prichard and sophomore Kalee Rochinski picked up hits for UTSA, and classmate Meredith Schmitt was solid in relief, throwing 2.2 hitless innings with a strikeout.

SLU got up early and never looked back, as they scored one in the first, three in the second, and one in the third to build the 5-0 advantage.
