UTSA opens 2025 season at No. 14 Texas A&M

SAN ANTONIO – Taking on the first spring season under first-year head coach Sasha Gozun, the UTSA men’s tennis team will kick off the 2025 season on Saturday, traveling to College Station, Texas to face the 14th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies at the George P. Mitchell '40 Tennis Center at 4 p.m. The Roadrunners have the last win in the series, during the 2023 season.

Following the Match
Texas A&M Athletics will host Live Results and fans can watch the action through 12th Man Video’s Live Video Portal. The match was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was bumped up due to weather concerns.

About the Roadrunners
The Roadrunners are under new leadership with Gozun announced as the program’s sixth head coach in August, following a strong assistant coaching career at Furman and Campbell – not to mention being a four-time American Athletic Conference Champion in his playing days at South Florida. In 2024, UTSA was 10-10 overall and slipped in and out of the national rankings throughout the year.

The Roadrunners return just three players from last year’s squad, each who played a part in the 2023 team’s achievement of reaching as high as No. 34 and finishing the season in the NCAA tournament with a No. 42 ranking. Typically playing on the mid-courts, senior Danijal Muminovic ended the fall season as AAC runner-up at the conference individual championships, going from unseeded to downing the No. 1, No. 8 and No. 5 seeds en route to the final. Muminovic finished last season 9-8 on the season. Tiago Torres is back for his final season with the Roadrunners, playing on the top two courts throughout his career, including a 10-7 singles record last season. Senior Miguel Alonso held the top singles record on court six, going 12-3, along with a 10-8 doubles record. In the fall, Torres and Alonso teamed for a successful stretch and head into the season ranked No. 60 in doubles play.

Along with one returning redshirt, Santiago Flyckt, the Roadrunners welcome six new players to San Antonio, including Luke Cantu, Ben Chetewy Ungar, Oskar Grzegorzewski, Sergei Haug, Enzo Vargas and Jakub Wlodarczyk.

About the Aggies
Ranked 14th in the initial ITA spring poll, Texas A&M returns 11 players from last year’s squad that ranked 16th in the final ITA poll and produced a 20-11 record after reaching three matches into the NCAA tournament. The Aggies defeated Rice and No. 18 San Diego before falling to second-ranked Texas.

Series with Texas A&M
The Aggies are 7-1 against the Roadrunners since 2010. The Roadrunners came away with a 4-3 victory last time they made the trek to College Station in 2023. The entire series to date has been played in College Station.

Up Next
One week apart, the Roadrunners will host UT Rio Grande Valley in the 2025 home opener on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the UTSA Tennis Center. The next date on the schedule is Feb. 2 at UT Arlington.
