SAN ANTONIO – Triumphant in a dogfight after Tuesday’s midweek match, the UTSA men’s tennis team (9-8) earned another ranked win with a 4-0 sweep over the visiting No. 62 Oregon Ducks (11-8) at the UTSA Tennis Center.
Although the Roadrunners saw some trouble on court three, the top two doubles courts went to UTSA for the doubles point, led off by a ranked doubles win on the top court, as Tomás Pinho and Tiago Torres defeated 33rd-ranked Matthew Burton and Quinn Vandecasteele in a dominant 6-1 showing. Extending their win total out to a team-high nine, Jackson Ross and Garrett Skelly put away David Cierny and Avi Shugar, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point for UTSA.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a lead on four of the singles courts and Pinho was again the first to put one in the books, topping Vlad Breazu in straight sets on court three, 6-3, 6-1. Torres followed on two with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Cierney. Locking up the clinch point, Miguel Alonso, topped Zian Vanderstappen on five to win his fifth straight and 11th overall on a 6-2, 6-4 performance.
All remaining courts went unfinished with each going to a third set.

“We had some adversity to overcome today and the guys respond very well. It started in doubles – we knew it was a key point going into this match. We had some guys not feeling well but they came in strong today and did it for the team! Those are the matches you train for all season long. Everyone was so locked in during singles. I am very proud of the effort and focus we played today with!”
