Lobos down UTSA in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – The UTSA men’s tennis team (3-5) opened the weekend’s competition at Wichita’s Genesis Round Rock courts, falling to a streaking New Mexico Lobos (7-2) squad on Saturday afternoon, 5-2.

The Roadrunners got off to a great start, with Jackson Ross and Garrett Skelly kicking things off on a 7-5 court three doubles victory over Ryoma Matsushita and Avery Tallakson. Miguel Alonso and Tiago Torres followed up on court two with a doubles-clinching triumph over Georgio Samaha and Nicolas Recoura – earning UTSA the first doubles point in five matches, since dropping fourth-ranked Texas’ doubles tandems on Jan. 27.

The Lobos responded with four straight singles points to take the overall match. On court six, Alonso notched a UTSA singles score and moved to 5-0 on the year with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 besting of Alex Maggs.

Quoting Coach Sergey Avdeyev
“We have seen progress in the doubles. We need to find a way to make the same adjustments in singles now.”
