IRVING, Texas – A pair of UTSA soccer players saw their names come up for post-season recognition on Sunday, as officials from the league office announced the 2024 American Athletic Conference All-Conference teams. Senior Sasjah Dade and freshman Addy Johnson were among the players recognized on the All-Conference Teams.
Dade (Ontario, California) earns her first AAC end-of-season honor and second career All-Conference nod, as a member of the All-AAC Third Team. After starting the year on the AAC Preseason Watch List for the second straight season, the senior defender was a back-line leader and captain, helping the Roadrunners to finish the regular season third in the AAC rankings and 49th nationally in goals-against-average at 0.833, limiting opponents to just 10.06 shots per game and 4.33 shots on goal per game. Dade also proved an important part of the offense with the second-most goals on the season at three, including the game-winner in the finale with Florida Atlantic. She was fifth in total shots (20). A 2023 and 2024 Samoa Women’s National team competitor, Dade finishes her career as an extremely consequential defender for a UTSA team that earned a 57.8 win percentage since the shortened COVID season, logging an 0.83 GAA in that same stretch – including this season, Dade has been a major contributor to defenses that logged each of the top five season GAA performances in program history. Dade also finishes her time in the Blue and Orange with 78 shots and her name peppered all over the UTSA record book – playing the third-most games (84) in a tie for second-most starts (79) while logging the second-most minutes (6,491). Her seven career game-winning goals ties for second and she has the eighth-most goals (11), adding four assists to tie for the 10th-most points (26).
This season, Dade was recognized as the AAC Defensive Player of the Week once this season, earning two AAC weekly Honorable Mentions, added to her Honor Roll recognition from last season and CUSA Defensive POTW honor in 2022. She was previously named to the All-Conference USA Third Team, along with four consecutive seasons receiving conference academic accolades.
Named to the All-Freshman Team, Johnson (Edmond, Oklahoma) was twice the recipient of the AAC’s Freshman of the Week award, pacing the Roadrunners with four goals and nine points, adding one assist. A selective shooter, Johnson went on-target for five of her seven shots in 2024, logging one game-winner at Central Arkansas and registering a .714 shot accuracy. Her two goals at UCA generated the first brace for the Roadrunners since the 2022 season. Coming on strong in her rookie season, Johnson played all 18 games and earned her first start against Abilene Christian. Johnson makes it consecutive seasons with a UTSA player on the freshman team after Jasmine Kessler was an honoree in 2023.
In total this season, the Roadrunners picked up AAC weekly honors two Offensive Player of the Week (Olivia Alvarez, Tyler Coker), one Defensive Player of the Week (Dade), two Freshman of the Week (Johnson twice) and five Honorable Mentions (Jasmine Kessler, Kameron Kloza, Dade twice, Jordan Walker).
