CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UTSA soccer team (6-6-3, 1-4-2 AAC) closed out the week with a scoreless draw on the road against Charlotte (1-7-6, 0-2-4 AAC) on Sunday at Transamerica Field. The Roadrunners maintained their position in the conference standings by adding conference points on the road during Charlotte’s senior day.
The first half proved to be a defensive standoff, as the 49ers registered the first shot of the game nearly seven minutes in, remaining the sole shot for the first 20 minutes of action. Once the Roadrunners got the offense moving, UTSA outshot Charlotte 5-4 in the opening half – with both teams registering a pair on target.
After the break, UTSA’s defense kept the 49ers from any additional chances, despite five additional off-target shots in the second half. Meanwhile, the Roadrunners chalked up three more chances on six attempts in the second half – the best candidate to break the stalemate came in the 69th minute when CLT’s Charlotte Harris made a last-ditch save on Sasjah Dade’s set piece header that got past goalkeeper Emma Wakeman. Sophie Morrin, Addy Johnson and Jordyn Hyland each had opportunities in the final 14 minutes.
Hyland logged two on-target attempts to lead the Roadrunners. For the 49ers, Wakeman logged four saves, while UTSA’s Jasmine Kessler notched a pair of stops while securing her fifth solo shutout of the year – bringing her career total to 10.

Quoting Coach Derek Pittman
“Our focus was on trusting and playing together AS ONE today and the team did exactly that. We defended Charlotte very well and created enough chances going forward to win the game. Their goalkeeper came up with some big plays on key set plays as well. We will continue to build on this performance this week and get ready to honor our senior class at home next Sunday against Temple.”
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners will be out of action until next Sunday, when UTSA hosts Temple at the Park West Athletics Complex, honoring eight seniors: Olivia Alvarez, Sasjah Dade, Maci Geltmeier, Peyton Godbey, Sabrina Hillyer, Isobel Herrod, Jordyn Hyland and Jordan Walker.
