SAN ANTONIO — On Wednesday, UTSA softball coach Vann Stuedeman officially announced the signing of San Antonio native Crislyne Moreno, who inks with the squad following a trio of stellar seasons at McNeese.
Crislyne Moreno | 5-8 | UTL | R/R | San Antonio, Texas | Samuel Clemens HS | McNeese
Moreno returns to her hometown after winning three regular-season Southland Conference Championships and two SLC Tournament titles. As a junior, she helped the Cowgirls to a 40-20 record, hitting .262 with 24 runs and 26 RBIs across 53 games and 45 starts. She was named to the All-SLC second-team as a designated player, also dropping 12 doubles and swiping 16 stolen bases.
As a sophomore, she appeared in 59 games with 53 starts, pacing the team with five home runs, four triples, and a .470 SLG%. She posted a .262 AVG to go with 28 RBIs, 25 runs and 15 walks. After taking down Southeastern to win the SLC tournament, Moreno and the Cowgirls battled their way to an NCAA Region Final, earning wins over Minnesota and No. 7 Washington, before a seventh-inning comeback allowed the Huskies to swipe a Super Regional bid away from McNeese.
Moreno made an immediate impact as a freshman, working a .355 AVG en route to 40 RBIs, 11 doubles, and a .511 SLG%. She cracked the All-SLC second team and hit .700 AVG across the SLC Tournament to claim MVP honors. She propelled the squad to a pair of regional victories over No. 21 Notre Dame before falling to host school and 10th-ranked Northwestern.
Moreno's success extended beyond the field at McNeese. She consistently earned a spot on the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll in all three seasons and was recognized as a 2024 SLC All-Academic second-team pick.
Before starring for the Cowgirls, Moreno was a standout performer at Samuel Clemens HS, claiming 2021 District 27-6A Offensive co-MVP on her way to a Bi-District Championship. She was also honored by Express-News on their 2021 All-Area team and was an All-District performer in her freshman, sophomore, and senior seasons. Moreno also represented the Buffaloes in volleyball, winning a 2019 Bi-District Championship and, eventually, reaching the state finals. Additionally, she was an Academic All-District pick in 2018, 2019, and 2021 and Academic All-State in 2021.
Moreno becomes the 11th member of the singing class, joining Taylor Meier, Jett Harrell, Katia Reyes, Madison Hornback, Ava Eldridge, Reagan Stoudt, Sabrina Wick, Skylar Rucker, Angelica Ortiz, and Kaylie Olivarez.
Head Coach Vann Stuedeman on Moreno:
"Crislyne is an exceptional young lady with many positive attributes. Her experience competing for conference and NCAA regional championships will certainly help us on the field. However, it is her exceptional character that we will be leaning on to help continue building a culture of excellence. She is a leader who knows what it takes to be a great teammate and how to build relationships for success. She is an excellent representative of San Antonio. Welcome Home, Crislyne, we are thrilled that you chose UTSA!"
