SAN ANTONIO – UTSA’s first season as a member of the American Athletic Conference saw the Roadrunners set impressive attendance, ticket sales and social media reach metrics across all sports during the 2023-24 academic year.
After a fall season that saw UTSA lead the AAC in soccer attendance, set a program record in volleyball attendance and record the fourth-highest attendance in UTSA football history, the positive trajectory continued through the winter and spring sports seasons.
Women’s Basketball
· The UTSA women’s basketball team capped a historic season in 2023-24 with an appearance in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament that included the program’s first-ever postseason victory against Northern Colorado.
· UTSA women’s basketball season ticket purchases have increased each of the last three seasons to a record high in 2023-24. Season-ticket sales have increased by more than 70 percent over the course of head coach Karen Aston’s three-year tenure.
· More than 12,000 fans passed through the UTSA women’s basketball turnstiles this season, marking the most for UTSA since the 2011-12 campaign. UTSA women’s basketball average game attendance has increased 83 percent over the last three seasons.
· The UTSA women’s basketball social media reach on Meta platforms (Facebook + Instagram) increased 318 percent from the first quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024.
Men’s Basketball
· The UTSA men’s basketball program totaled nearly 20,000 fans for the 2023-24 season, marking the best total attendance for the program since 2010-11.
· The 248 season tickets sold for the UTSA men’s basketball program marked the most for the Roadrunners since the 2019-20 campaign.
· The UTSA men’s basketball social media reach on Meta platforms (Facebook + Instagram) increased 505 percent from the first quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024.
Enhancements to the Roadrunner Fields for baseball and softball led to the installation and sale of reserved chairback seating at both facilities for the first time in program history.
Baseball
· UTSA baseball eclipsed the 30-win plateau for the third consecutive season, continuing an impressive standard of excellence set by head coach Pat Hallmark.
· A total of 21,050 fans passed through the turnstiles for UTSA baseball, marking the first time in program history the Roadrunners have eclipsed the 20,000-fan total for a season. The stadium experienced an average capacity of 87.71 percent during the year.
· The past two seasons have been two of the best attended seasons in program history. Since the 2022 campaign, UTSA baseball’s total attendance has improved 113 percent and its average attendance has improved 98.9 percent.
· The Roadrunners sold 232 season tickets, marking a school record for season-ticket sales and the first time UTSA had ever sold more than 200 season tickets for baseball. It was a 96 percent year-over-year increase from the previous record of 118 season tickets sold, accomplished last season.
· The UTSA baseball social media reach on Meta platforms (Facebook + Instagram) increased from a reach of 60,100 in the first quarter of 2023 to a reach of 475,500 in the first quarter of 2024.
Softball
· Fan excitement surrounding the 2024 UTSA softball season reached historic levels in the first season of head coach Vann Stuedeman’s tenure.
· All of the new 48 reserved chairback seats for UTSA softball sold out a month and a half prior to the start of the 2024 season.
· UTSA softball experienced a 131.8 percent year-over-year increase in season tickets sold in the 2024 season as compared to the 2023 campaign.
· The stadium averaged an 87.42 percent capacity during the year.
· UTSA softball’s total attendance was 4,196 fans over just 16 home games. That is the Roadrunners’ highest-ever total attendance with fewer than 18 home games and the first time UTSA has eclipsed the 4,000-fan mark for the season since 2018, when the Roadrunners hosted 24 contests.
· The UTSA softball social media reach on Meta platforms (Facebook + Instagram) saw a dramatic increase. In the first quarter of 2023, the reach was 44,200 as compared to an impressive reach of 6.8 million in the first quarter of 2024.
Athletics
· During the first quarter of 2024, UTSA Athletics main social media account (@UTSAAthletics) engagements increased 13 percent as compared to the first quarter of 2023.
· UTSA Athletics main social media account (@UTSAAthletics) impressions increased more than 5 percent in the first quarter of 2024 as compared to the first quarter of 2023.
