Ortiz signs with UTSA softball

She represents the eighth member of the 2025 signing class

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA softball coach Vann Stuedeman officially announced the signing of Luna Community College transfer and one of the National Junior College Athletics Association's all-time greats, Angelica Ortiz, on Monday.

Ortiz recently wrapped up a stellar season at Luna CC, with 41 home runs and 119 RBIs on the year, both serving as the NJCAA Division I single-season records. Her .533 AVG and .613 OBP each rank third, while a whopping 1.480 SLG leads the nation. She's logged 222 total bases, the second-most in the JUCO ranks, and has worked 33 walks for the 26th-highest figure. For her efforts, she was named to the 2024 all-region team as a designated player and was the Region 9 Player of the Year. 

In total, she launched 66 career long balls, plating 184 runs across two seasons with the Lady Rough Riders. Her 25 home runs as a freshman slotted her seventh on the NJCAA leader board, and a 1.077 SLG was ninth. 

Ortiz graduated from Atrisco Heritage Academy in 2021 and plans to study criminal justice at UTSA with the goal of becoming a detective. She is the daughter of Elicia and Orlando Ortiz, has two brothers, Antonio and Alejandro, and one sister, Diana. 

She becomes the eighth member of the 2025 signing class, joining Katia ReyesMadison HornbeckAva EldridgeReagan StoudtSabrina WickSkylar Rucker, and Kaylie Olivarez.
