DALLAS – Sophomore Ruger Riojas of the UTSA baseball team has been added to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watchlist, announced the organization on Wednesday afternoon.
Founded in 1962, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. 59 of the nation’s top relievers were named to the midseason watchlist, including four from the American Athletic Conference. The NCBWA will announce the finalists on June 5 with the winner being named on June 14 at the 2024 College World Series.
A native of Wimberley, Texas, Riojas ranks sixth in the nation with seven victories and 28th in the nation with six saves. His ERA of 2.49 is good for 29th in the nation. In just two seasons, he has picked up 12 wins and 111 strikeouts. He was named the AAC Pitcher of the Week on March 25, after picking up two saves against then-No. 10 East Carolina during the previous week.
