LUBBOCK, Texas – Amidst the snow barreling into panhandle West Texas, the UTSA men’s tennis team (3-4) fought across the lineup, but Texas Tech (5-3) secured the last two points to deliver the 4-1 win, indoors at The Falls Tennis & Athletic Club on Sunday.
The Red Raiders captured the advantage early with a 2-0 win in the doubles point and a subsequent court one victory to go up 2-0 just over an hour into Sunday’s match. However, Tiago Torres quickly brought the match back into contention with a court two besting of Lorenzo Esquici, going three sets to a 6-1, 0-6, 7-5 victory – trimming the deficit to a single point.
With the bottom two courts on delayed starts due to the venue change, it looked like the Roadrunners could have a chance to bring things closer and let things play out down the line, as Danijal Muminovic rallied on court four from a 3-4 second-set deficit to knot things at 6-6, but Niksa Arsic edged him in the tiebreaker, 7-3 to finalize the 4-1 Texas Tech win.

UTSA will travel this upcoming week to Kansas for a pair of matches at Wichita State. The Roadrunners will take on New Mexico in Wichita on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. and then turn their focus to host Wichita State on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. Next week will mark the fourth all-time meeting with the UNM Lobos and the ninth outing against the Wichita State Shockers after WSU took a 4-0 loss last year in San Antonio.
