UTSA's ITA Regional doubles run concludes in semifinal

by Michael Stambaugh

FORT WORTH – The precedent-setting run for the Roadrunner men’s tennis doubles pairs at the ITA South Regional Championships ended on Monday Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center & Bartzen Varsity Courts, as both UTSA doubles teams reaching the Regional Semifinal were downed just shy of the championship match.

With two Roadrunner pairs reaching this stage at once for the first time and going up against two pair from host TCU, the tandems of Alan Magadan/Tomás Pinho and Jackson Ross/Garrett Skelly each vied to put a UTSA squad in the championship for the second consecutive year. Starting off the morning, Ross/Skelly feel to Lui Maxted and Duncan Chan; 6-4, 7-5. Near midday, Magadan/Pinho also were eliminated by eventual Texas Region Champions Pedro Vives and Sebastian Gorzny; 6-1, 6-3.

Quoting Coach Sergey Avdeyev
"Overall, I am happy with our performance. Everyone had at least one highlighted match. Very similar to last year, we’re gaining a lot of momentum from this tournament and are ready for the spring.”
