SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA baseball team completed its first series sweep of the season with a 9-6 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.

BREAKDOWN OF THE GAME
Starting pitcher Robbie Maldonado started the game off strong as he kept the Islanders off the board for the first two innings. In the top of the first, Maldonado sat the batters down on a foul out, fielder's choice and flyout. The Roadrunners struck first in the bottom of the frame as a sacrifice fly by Valdez gave UTSA an early 1-0 lead.
The second inning went scoreless as Maldonado faced the minimum, striking out two and catching another stealing. The Islanders got on the board and took a 5-1 lead as they scattered five runs across the third through fifth inning. UTSA responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth as Valdez worked a bases-loaded walk to drive in Garrett Poston.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi plated another run in the top of the sixth to extend its' lead to 6-2, but that would be the last time the Islanders scored. The Roadrunners exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, taking a 9-6 lead. A single by Josh Killeen drove in Valdez to tie the game up at 6-6, then Poston singled to drive in another couple of runs and give UTSA an 8-6 lead. The Roadrunners topped off the inning with their ninth run, off a single by Clark Henry to bring home Isaiah Walker.
Miller came in to relieve Riojas in the eighth inning and had another phenomenal outing, striking out the side in order. He allowed a couple singles in the ninth inning, but got out of the inning unscathed with a double play and a strikeout. UTSA concluded the series with a 9-6 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to earn the series sweep.
The Roadrunners improve to an 14-3 record, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi falls to a 7-9 record.
