DALLAS – The UTSA men's tennis team closed out its Dallas-centric weekend with a loss to SMU on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Mustangs, 4-1.
The Roadrunners (2-4) split their weekend matches in the Dallas area, having downed UT Arlington 4-3 a day prior. SMU (6-3) moved to 6-0 on its home court, having only given up two points in six home matchups.
In the first action of the afternoon, SMU claimed the first two doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead and forced the third matchup to go unfinished with the outcome already decided. UTSA's eighth-ranked pair, Alan Magadan and Sebastian Rodriguez, had their doubles match called off before completion as the two were winning 5-3.
Following doubles play, the Mustangs kept up the pressure, winning the first two singles matches to go up 3-0 and needing just one more win to secure the day. SMU's Pranav Kumar beat Rodriguez (6-2, 6-2) which was followed by Krall besting Alan Magadan (6-3, 6-4). The fourth match to finish was Danijal Muminovic who was able to secure UTSA's lone point of the early afternoon, as the Bosnian native took down Winkkler (6-2, 6-2). Torres dropped a tightly contested first set to Neff (7-6) before falling to him 6-1 in the second set as SMU was able to earn its fourth and match-sealing point.
