UTSA set for final road test at North Texas

DENTON, Texas – The UTSA soccer team is set for its final road match of the season, heading to Denton, Texas, to face Conference USA foe North Texas on Sunday afternoon. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ at 1 p.m. (CT) from UNT's Soccer and Track & Field Stadium. 
 
The Roadrunners hold a 7-4-4 overall record (2-2-3 in C-USA play) after a 4-0 victory over Middle Tennessee on Thursday night. UTSA has collected nine points towards Conference USA standings, currently sitting in seventh place. The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season make it into the Conference USA Tournament.
 
The Roadrunners are coming off a 4-0 victory over Middle Tennessee on Thursday night at Park West Athletics Complex, snapping a five-match winless streak. UTSA was led by Avery Chaney who scored half the goals, including the game-winner in the 14th minute. The Roadrunners' other two goals were scored by Alissa Stewart and Kiran Singh. Anna Sutter and Sasjah Dade each notched two assists throughout the match. As a team, UTSA dominated the pitch, outshooting MTSU by 13 shots to two shots. 
 
LEADING THE ROADRUNNERS
Nationally, UTSA ranks in the top-50 in five different categories, including 20th in assists per game (2.33), 43rdin points per game (6.20), 12th in total assists (35), 42nd in total goals (29) and 25th in total points (93). The team is second in the Conference USA with 234 shots, 92 points, 29 goals and 34 assists. The Roadrunners have allowed the second-least goals (12) in the conference through 15 matches. As a team, the Roadrunners have outshot their opponents by 234 shots to 113 shots through the season so far.
 
Singh leads the team with 37 shots (15 on goal) and 15 points (five goals and five assists), starting in all 14 matches. In the nation, Singh has the 34th-most total assists. Preseason Conference Team selection Anna Sutter trails her with 11 points, consisting of three goals and five assists. 
 
Sasjah Dade was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30. Although she is a defender by trade, Dade has contributed greatly on offense as she has nine points consisting of three goals and three assists. She is fourth in the conference with two game-winning goals. Defensively, she has an impressive 77 percent of defensive challenges won and 83 percent successful tackles. 
 
The defensive line of Dade, Deja Sandoval, Kendall Kloza and Sabrina Hillyer have played integral roles in the Roadrunners only allowing 12 goals and recording four shutouts through the first 14 matches, accounting for 4,728 minutes combined. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
In the all-time series, UTSA has 4-6 record against the North Texas Mean Green.  The teams last played each other on Nov. 1, 2021, when the Roadrunners defeated the Mean Green, 1-0, in double overtime during UTSA's first-ever Conference USA tournament appearance. The game-winning goal was scored by North Texas, who own-goaled in the 107th minute attempting to clear an Anna Sutter cross. 
 
SCOUTING THE MEAN GREEN
North Texas is coming off a 3-1 win over FIU on Thursday to bring their overall record to 8-5-2 (4-2-1 in Conference USA play), currently sitting in third place in the conference standings. The Mean Green were picked to finish fourth of 11 teams in the C-USA, based on the preseason conference coaches' poll. Midfielder Taylor Tufts and forward Allie Byrd Preseason All-Conference Team. 
 
Olivia Klein leads the Mean Green with 20 points, consisting of eight goals and four assists. Preseason All-Conference Team pick Taylor Tufts has recorded the most shots (41 – 16 on goal) on the team. Dani Jacobson notched 29 saves and allowed 14 goals in over 1,268 minutes played. 
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners return home to host WKU on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. (CT) at Park West Athletics Complex. Five seniors (Jil Schneider, Kendall Kloza, Lexi Bolton, Abby Kassal and Isa Hernandez) will be honored for Senior Day at this match. It will also be the Homecoming and Cantober match.
