SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer team returned home with a splash as the Roadrunners shutout Middle Tennessee, 4-0, on Thursday night at Park West Athletics Complex.
In their first match back home in three weeks, the Roadrunners looked to bounce back after a few skids on the road. UTSA put themselves in a good position as they earned three points to move up to seventh place in the conference standings. The Roadrunners outshot the Blue Raiders by 13 shots to one shot, as well as earning four corner kicks to the Blue Raiders' zero. Kiran Singh led UTSA with three shots and a goal, her second match in a row with a goal. Avery Chaney accounted for half of the Roadrunners' goals, her first two goals at UTSA.
Through the first 45 minutes of action, the Roadrunners outshot the Blue Raiders by eight shots with one shot. UTSA took a 1-0 advantage in the 14th minute as Deja Sandoval booted the ball from about half field to right in front of the goal where Anna Sutter fed the ball to Chaney who knocked it in. The Roadrunners extended their lead to 2-0 when Anna Sutter's ball was saved by the Blue Raiders' goalkeeper Hannah Suder but then Alissa Stewart sneaked past to knock the ball in during the 21st minute. Just a few minutes later, Chaney fired in her second goal of the night to put UTSA up 3-0. UTSA fired off three more shots and MTSU countered with one shot, but the Roadrunners carried a 3-0 lead to halftime.
In the second half, UTSA once again outperformed MTSU by firing off five shots to one shot. The Roadrunners extended their advantage to 4-0 in the 52nd minute as Sasjah Dade launched the ball from half field to Singh who then charged towards the goal to knock it in. UTSA then recorded three more shots while MTSU recorded one more shot until the end of the match. The Roadrunners dominate to a 4-0 win over Middle Tennessee once the final buzzer sounded.
UTSA's record improves to 7-4-4 overall (2-2-3 in C-USA action), while Middle Tennessee's overall record falls to 2-8-3 (0-4-2 in C-USA). As of the current conference standings, the Roadrunners sit in seventh place while the Blue Raiders sit in 11th place. The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season make it into the Conference USA Tournament.
