SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA baseball team will be back in action tomorrow, April 19, as the Roadrunners travel to San Marcos, Texas to face off with No. 9 Texas State.
UTSA (24-12, 9-6 C-USA) enters the weekday matchup with a 7-1 record in weekday games on the year as the Roadrunners are 4-1 in their last five midweek contests. The weekday matchup will also be the final leg of an eight-game road trip the Roadrunners have been on.
The Roadrunners saw their five-game win streak snapped Sunday afternoon as UTSA dropped just its second game in the month of April to Rice. In its last 13 games, UTSA has gone on a five-game win streak twice and is 11-2 over that time. Amongst those 11 wins were numerous wins over ranked opponents such as No. 11 TCU, No. 23 Charlotte and No. 29 Old Dominion. The Roadrunners also defeated No. 2 Stanford earlier in the year and hold a 7-1 record against ranked foes. Entering the weekday tilt, UTSA is ranked number 56 in RPI.
The Bobcats (28-9, 12-3 Sun Belt) enter the weekday matchup riding a five-game win streak which includes wins over Georgia Southern and Baylor and a sweep of Texas Arlington. Texas State owns wins over then-number one Texas and then-number 11 Arizona (2x) as part of its stellar record.
The Bobcats and the Roadrunners have played four common opponents on the year. Both teams have squared off with Southern in a weekend series and Sam Houston, Baylor and UIW in weekday games. Both squads went a combined 4-2 against the four teams with UTSA's losses coming to Southern and Baylor while Texas State dropped games to Sam Houston and UIW.
This will be the 98th all-time meeting between the two colleges which are separated by less than an hour. Texas State owns the all-time record over UTSA, holding a 60-37 record over the Roadrunners. UTSA is 14-30 in games played in San Marcos.
