UTSA shuts out Seattle, wins 11-0

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA (5-1) blanked Seattle University (1-6) in the third game of its home-opening series Saturday, as four Roadrunners combined to shut out the Redhawks 11-0.

UTSA starter Ulises Quiroga worked four shutout innings in his first career start, allowing just a pair of singles and walking four with two strikeouts. Simon Miller (0-0) opened the fifth inning in his first outing of the year, working three hitless innings, walking four and striking out five.

Grant Miller opened the eighth inning and worked a shutout frame, walking one and allowing a hit, striking out two. Ryan Ward worked the ninth.

The Roadrunners have now allowed just two runs over their last 22 innings, and have only allowed five runs in the three games against Seattle thus far.

Seattle starter Brady Liddle worked five innings in his second start of the year, allowing five hits and three runs, striking out six. Desmond Parisotto worked 1.2 innings in relief, allowing a run, with Morgan White, Tyler Chipman, Lucas Ford and Alex McBee also working in relief.

The Roadrunners got on the board in the first inning, getting a leadoff double down the rightfield line from Leyton Barry, his third of the year. Jonathan Tapia followed with a single up the middle to score Barry from second base and motored to third base after a single from Chase Keng. After an out, Ryan Flores chopped into a ground-ball out, allowing Tapia to hustle home and score from second base.

Josh Killeen pushed the lead up to 3-0 with a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning, a no-doubt blast belted out to deep leftfield.

The Roadrunners stretched their lead to 9-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, getting a two-out walk from Tapia, who took third on a single through the right side from Keng. Tapia and Keng each scored after a pair of wild pitches. Bailey and Ryan Flores each drew walks in front of Shane Sirdashney, who doubled down the leftfield line, allowing the pair to score for a 7-0 lead. Garrett Poston followed and scored Sirdashney after hitting into an error on the right side. Barry forced home Poston for a 9-0 lead.

UTSA added on in the eighth, getting a run scored on an Isaiah Walker sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single from Flores.
