Schneider and Stewart named to C-USA All-Academic Second Team

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA goalkeeper Jil Schneider and midfielder Alissa Stewart have been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Second Team, the league office announced today.

They are the seventh and eighth Roadrunners to make a C-USA All-Academic Team since UTSA joined in 2013. They join Charlotte Husoe (2013), Anissa Munson (2014), Kaja Skare (2016), Michelle Cole (2018), Nicole Galan (2019) and current teammate Abby Kassal (2020).

Schneider and Stewart were two of only 22 student-athletes who were named to a 2021 C-USA Women's Soccer All-Academic Team on Friday afternoon. 13 schools from the conference were recognized, and UTSA was one of six programs who landed more than one player on an All-Academic Team.

Both Schneider and Stewart have maintained a perfect 4.0 throughout their college tenure. Schneider is working toward a management major, while Stewart is studying economics.

When asked about his players' accomplishments, Coach Derek Pittman said, "our aim continues to be all about building champions on and off the field. These two and many more on our roster chase excellence every day and I'm extremely happy that Jil and Stewie have been recognized by C-USA for their efforts in the classroom. The standard is high within our program and our high character athletes raise it every season."

Goalkeeper Jil Schneider has started and played every game this season. She's logged every possible minute on the year for the Roadrunners, as she has never come off the field. She was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll both as a freshman and as a sophomore. As a sophomore she also earned the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal. Schneider posts a 0.83 goals against average along with 48 saves on the season. She currently has seven shutouts this year, and has helped lead UTSA to nine wins.

Midfielder Alissa Stewart has started all but two matches for the Roadrunners this season. She began her career at Mississippi State, where as a freshman she was named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. In her sophomore season, she was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the fall of 2020. This season, she has two goals and five assists for nine total points; good enough for third most on the team. She scored a game-winning goal against Lamar and has been a pivotal piece to the Roadrunner offensive attack.
