UTSA set to wrap up regular season at Southern Miss

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer (9-4-3, 3-2-2 C-USA) will hit the road to play its regular season finale this Thursday. The Roadrunners will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. and face C-USA opponent Southern Mississippi (8-3-2, 4-1-2 C-USA) at 3 p.m. The match will be streamed on CUSA.tv.  
   
This past week, UTSA faced two opponents. On Friday, the Roadrunners hosted UAB. UTSA got off to a fast start thanks to an Alissa Stewart goal in the second minute, but UAB found an equalizer in the second half. The match remained tied through 110 minutes after that, as the two programs tied 1-1.
 
Following the draw against UAB, UTSA hosted their senior night on Sunday when Trinity (TX) came to Park West. The Roadrunners easily handled the Tigers, winning by a score of 6-0. UTSA had six different players score on the night. Following the match, seniors Ellis Patterson, Alyssa Blankenship and Katie Becker were recognized.
 
Following the week, the Roadrunners are still unbeaten in the month of October, and UTSA has 11 points in conference standings. The win also guaranteed that UTSA will post the best winning regular season winning percentage in program history.
 
The Roadrunners enter Thursday's match holding a goal differential of 26-14 on the season. UTSA is averaging 1.62 goals per game and is shooting 43% of their total shots on net. The Roadrunners are averaging 13.6 shots per game. Through seven games of conference play, UTSA holds a 98-59 shot advantage, a 44-28 shot on goal advantage and a 29-26 corner kick advantage.  
   
UTSA goalkeeper Jil Schneider has saved 48 shots and posts a 0.83 goals-against average. UTSA has seen 11 different players score through 16 games this season. Anna Sutter leads the offensive charge, as she has six goals this season. Ellis Patterson has four goals, while Isa Hernandez and Kendall Kloza have three goals apiece. Patterson leads the squad with eight assists, and Alissa Stewart is second on the team with five. Patterson leads the team in points scored with 16 and shots attempted with 35.  
   
Southern Miss enters the game on Sunday with an 8-3-2 record overall and a 4-1-2 C-USA record. The Golden Eagles also are currently in first place in the West division with 14 points. The Golden Eagles have outscored by their opponents 32-11 this season and average 2.46 goals a match. Southern Miss has three players who have scored five or more goals this season. Freshman midfielder Ilana Izquierdo leads the offensive assault, as she has six goals and five assists for 17 points on the season. Alice Campos and Blessing Kingsley are the other offensive weapons for the Golden Eagles. Both players have chipped in five goals and two assists. Southern Miss has mainly used Kendell Mindnich in net this season. Mindnich has played in 11 games and has allowed 11 goals. She also posts 54 saves.
   
This matchup will mark the 7th meeting between UTSA and Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles and Roadrunners have split the series and have each won three of the six matches. The most recent meeting between the teams was in March earlier this year, when UTSA fell to Southern Miss, 3-1.
