Roadrunners race past Tigers, complete best home season in school history

SAN ANTONIO -- UTSA capped the best home season in school history with a 6-0 win over the Trinity Tigers Sunday night at Park West Athletic Complex.
 
UTSA (9-4-3, 3-2-2 Conference USA) took an early lead and did not let up as it defeated Trinity (12-2-1, 6-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference). The match was the Roadrunners' seventh shutout of the season. The contest was the first matchup in program history against the Tigers, who had won 12 of 14 games on the year.

 
UTSA scored its first goal of the night in the 16th minute. A deflected shot from Alissa Stewart was sent into the direction of Isa Hernandez. Hernandez found Kiran Singh behind the defensive line inside the box, and Singh finished at the far post.
 
A 30-yard free kick off a Tigers' foul in the 20th minute gave the Roadrunners their second goal. Kendall Kloza sent the kick over the Tigers' defensive lineup and found the back of the net at the far top corner.
 
To increase the lead, Mackenzie Kaufhold ran the ball down the far sideline, passing to Ellis Patterson. Patterson crossed into the box, deflecting the ball off the keeper to an open Anna Sutter. Sutter headed the ball into the middle of the net. The goal was Patterson's 21st assist, which tied her for the record for most assists in a single season. Patterson has recorded 61 career points, placing her second in program history.
 
In the 25th minute, Sutter gave the ball to Patterson at the midfield line. Patterson outran her defender deep in Tiger territory in the 18-yard box. She flipped a shot past the keeper inside of the six-yard box at the far post (4-0).
 
The Roadrunners opened the second half with an early goal in the 55th minute. Patterson crossed the ball to an open Hernandez inside the 18-yard box. Hernandez finished the ball across the goal mouth at the near post.
 
A deflected shot from Alyssa Blankenship in the 57th was sent in the direction of Deja Sandoval who found the back of the net for the final goal of the match (6-0).

 
Keeper Jil Schneider recorded one save of the night. With the shutout, she ties the record for shutouts in a single season with eight.
 
The Roadrunners outshot the Tigers, as they had 16 opposed to Trinity's four.
 
UTSA returns to action in Hattiesburg, Miss. on October 28, as they face Southern Miss. The match is set to kick off at 3 p.m.
