SAN ANTONIO – Junior Alissa Stewart netted her second goal of 2021 in a 1-1 UTSA soccer draw with UAB, on Friday night at the Park West Athletics Complex.
UTSA (8-4-3, 3-2-2 Conference USA) struck in the second minute, just 90 seconds into the match, as Sarina Russ found space in the middle of the pitch, sending a ball to Ellis Patterson on the edge of the 18-yard box. Patterson sent a ball into the box for Stewart, who finished her second goal of the year.
It marked the 19th career assist for Patterson, a school record, and 57 career points, second-most in program history. It was the fourth assist of the year for Russ.

UAB (5-8-3, 3-3-1 C-USA) evened up the game in the 47th minute, getting a goal from Morgan Hilliwill, her second of the year, on an assist from Lexxe Lipsey. Lipsey had a run down the near sideline and found Hilliwill with a cross inside the box, who finished the equalizer.
UTSA keeper Jill Schneider had a save over 110 minutes of action, with UAB keeper Eve Beyer notching three saves. The Roadrunners owned an 8-7 advantage in shots and a 4-2 lead in shots on goal in the game, with UAB sporting a 3-2 margin in corner kicks.
UTSA returns to action on Sunday, hosting Trinity in its home finale at 7 p.m. in a game broadcast live on CUSA TV.
With a 4-1-3 record at Park West in 2021, UTSA needs a win over Trinity on Sunday to claim the best home record in UTSA single-season history, which would eclipse the 7-3-0 (.700 winning percentage) of the 2010 club. UTSA eight wins on the year are tied with for the third-best win total in program annals.
