UTSA soccer travels to face Rice

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer (7-4-2, 2-2-1 C-USA) will head to Houston to face C-USA opponent Rice (9-4-1, 3-2-0 C-USA) on Sunday at 2 p.m. The match will be played at Holloway Field and will be streamed on CUSA.tv. 
  
Earlier this week, UTSA squared off with Louisiana Tech in San Antonio. The match was a wild one, as there were three total penalty kick goals, and two of them came in the 89th minute! The two teams went to OT, and UTSA played the extra time with only ten players. The match went on for 20 more minutes, but after the dust settled, the score was still tied at 2-2.
 
The Louisiana Tech match saw two different scorers for the Roadrunners. The first score came via penalty kick Isa Hernandez in the 67th minute. The second goal came via a Marlee Fray penalty kick in the 89th minute.
 
After earning the draw, the Roadrunners are unbeaten in their last three conference matches, and UTSA has seven points in conference standings. The draw also continued UTSA's best start in program history, as 7-4-2 is the best winning percentage through 13 games in UTSA history.
 
The Roadrunners now hold a goal differential of 18-13 on the season. UTSA is averaging 1.38 goals per game and is shooting 41% of their total shots on net. The Roadrunners are averaging 14.1 shots per game. Through five games of conference play, UTSA holds an 80-44 shot advantage, a 35-21 shot on goal advantage and a 25-20 corner kick advantage. 
  
UTSA goalkeeper Jil Schneider has saved 41 shots and posts a 0.96 goals against average. UTSA has seen 11 different players score through 13 games this season. Anna Sutter leads the offensive charge, as she has four goals this season. Ellis Patterson has three goals, while Isa Hernandez and Kendall Kloza have two goals apiece. Patterson leads the squad with five assists, and Alissa Stewart is second on the team with four. Patterson leads the team in points scored with 11 and shots attempted with 30. 
  
Rice enters the game on Sunday with a 9-4-1 record overall and a 3-2-0 C-USA record. The Owls have outscored their opponents 22-14 this season and average 1.57 goals scored a match. Rice has 10 players who have scored a goal this season. Midfielder Delaney Schultz leads the offensive assault, as she has eight goals scored and seven assists on the year for a team high 23 points. Goalkeeping for the Owls this season is  Bella Killgore. She has played every possible minute on the season and, like Jil Schneider, posts a 0.96 goals against average. Killgore also has 70 saves on the year to pair with her nine wins.
  
This matchup will mark the 13th meeting between UTSA and Rice. The Owls enter the match with an 11-1 advantage in the series. The most recent meeting between the teams was in February earlier this year, when UTSA fell to Rice at home, 3-2.
