UTSA soccer looks to bounce back as they travel to face UTEP

SAN ANTONIO – After dropping their conference opener to Old Dominion, 2-0, UTSA looks to get back on track Friday when they travel to face UTEP. The match will be played in El Paso at University Field at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on CUSA TV.
 
The Roadrunners opened conference play with a 2-0 loss to Old Dominion last Thursday. UTSA fell behind early as the Monarchs scored in the 10th minute of action. UTSA ended up outshooting ODU 18-11, however they were unable to connect and were shut out.
 
The Roadrunners hold a goal differential of 12-10 on the season. UTSA is averaging 1.33 goals per game and is shooting 37% of their total shots on net. The Roadrunners are averaging 13.4 shots per game.
 
UTSA goalkeeper Jil Schneider has saved 28 shots and posts a 1.08 goals against average. UTSA has seen eight different players score through nine games this season. Ellis Patterson leads the offensive charge, as she has three goals this season. Anna Sutter and Kendall Kloza each have two goals to their name. Alissa Stewart and Patterson lead the squad with three assists on the year and seven other Roadrunners have notched at least one assist. Patterson leads the team in points scored with nine and shots attempted with 18.
 
UTEP enters the game on Friday with a 2-7-0 record. The Miners are led offensively by forward Jackie Soto who efficiently has three goals on seven shots, and forward Jojo Ngongo has two goals and one assist. UTEP has played three goalkeepers this season. Between the three of them, they have managed to save 39 total shots.
 
This will mark the 11th meeting between UTSA and UTEP, with the Miners owning a 1-7-2 advantage in the series. The most recent meeting between the teams was last April when UTSA won their first ever match against the Miners, 2-1.
