SAN ANTONIO – The Roadrunner soccer program opened conference play Thursday night as they fell to the Monarchs of Old Dominion, 2-0.
UTSA (5-3-1) battled an opportunistic Old Dominion (5-2-0) team that converted an early goal in the 11th minute of the match. The Roadrunners were in a 1-0 hole at the half; however, they held the shot advantage at 8-5. The Monarchs again found themselves in a favorable scoring position and converted early in the second half, in the 49th minute.

UTSA fought their way to multiple scoring opportunities in the second half but were unable to convert. Midfielder Alissa Stewart and defender Kendall Kloza both had headers go off the crossbar.
UTSA held a 18-11 lead in total shots. The Roadrunners also held the lead in corner kicks on the night, with a 5-4 tally.
Jil Schneider saved three goals on the night in 90 minutes, while Monarch keeper Kasey Perry posted a shutout with five saves.
Scoring on the night for the Monarchs were Morgan Hall and Emily Garrick.
UTSA's next contest will be Friday, September 24 at UTEP. The match will begin at 7 p.m. That game will be played in El Paso at University Field and will be streamed on Conference USA TV.
