SAN ANTONIO – Freshman Anna Sutter netted a pair of goals to lead UTSA soccer to a 3-0 win over California Baptist in the home opener on Thursday night at Park West Athletics Complex.
A native of Switzerland, Sutter had a pair of goals in the first half to highlight UTSA's home-opening win over the Lancers, a 10-win team from a year ago. Sutter has had a prolific start to the 2021 season, including an assist in a win over Tulsa on opening weekend in Stillwater, Okla., last Sunday. She struck for UTSA's first goal in the fourth minute and solidified the win with a tally in the 21st minute.
UTSA (2-1-0) also got a goal from senior Ellis Patterson, a native of Austin, Texas, in the 14th minute. It marked Patterson's second goal of the year and the 18th of her career, moving into third in UTSA career history. Patterson owns 49 career points, ranking third in school annals.

UTSA keeper Jil Schneider earned her second clean sheet of the year, totaling six saves in 90 minutes in goal. California Baptist keeper Romane Salvador had three saves.
Sutter struck for a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, as Alissa Stewart found Kendall Kloza on an attack down the center of the pitch. Kloza delivered the ball to Sutter, who netted her first career goal from about 10-yards out.
Patterson gave UTSA a 2-0 lead in the 14th minute, scooping up an ill-advised clearance attempt at the edge of the 18-yard box. She created space from the middle of the 18-yard box and fired a right-footed strike past a diving keeper.
In the 21st minute, Sutter put the game away with her second goal of the game. She played the ball down the near side to Stewart, who sent a right-footed cross into the six-yard box where Sutter found the ball, finishing it amongst traffic past a diving Salvador.
Both teams fired 11 shots – and six shots on goal – in the game. CBU (0-2-0) totaled a 4-3 lead in corner kicks.
The Roadrunners look to keep their two-game winning streak going as they return to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host the Antelopes of Grand Canyon University. The game will be streamed live on CUSA TV.
