No. 16 Oklahoma State outlasts Roadrunners in season lid-lifter

STILLWATER, Okla. -- No. 16 Oklahoma State netted a goal in each half to post a 2-0 win over UTSA soccer in the season lid-lifter for both teams, on Thursday night at Neal Patterson Stadium.

UTSA (0-1) battled the high-octane Cowgirls through 90 minutes, controlling much of the game in the second half. The Roadrunners allowed a goal in the 29th and 78th minutes, with the first tally coming off a corner kick and the second off an unlucky bounce off the post and a UTSA defender into the net.

Oklahoma State (1-0) owned an 11-9 lead in total shots, with UTSA owning a 6-4 advantage in shots on target. OSU owned a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Roadrunners played 18 student-athletes in their season opener. UTSA keeper Jil Schneider posted a pair of saves in 90 minutes. Oklahoma State keeper Evie Vitali saved four shots.

The Roadrunners were led by a three-shot effort from Lexi Bolton, with Isa Hernandez chipping in a pair of shots that forced saves. Sarina Russ, Deja Sandoval, Alissa Stewart and Sasjah Dade each fired shots.

Oklahoma State struck first in the 29th minute, getting a goal from Ally Jackson on a corner-kick assist from Kim Rodriguez.

The Roadrunners had their best chance off a run from Kiran Singhin the 70th minute on consecutive shots from Hernandez, forcing a save from Vitali, with the rebound leading Hernandez to a look at goal from the near side without a keeper in her path. The shot sailed inside the post but was saved by an OSU defender.

An Oklahoma State shot in the 78th minute bounced off the post, hitting a UTSA defender and rolling into the net, Oklahoma State took a 2-0 lead, with the goal credited to Gabriella Coleman.

UTSA returns to action on Sunday at 1:30 p.m., facing Tulsa in Stillwater, Okla.
