Roadrunners end season in heartbreak to WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The UTSA softball team closed out the 2021 season in a 3-2 loss to WKU in game two of the first round of the Conference USA Championship.
 
The Lady Toppers were on the board first with a run in the bottom of the third.
 
The Roadrunners came back in the fourth to take the lead. Madison Washington opened with a home run to right field to tie the game (1-1). Kindell Brooks and Marena Estell followed with back-to-back walks. Taylor Medina was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases. With one out, Erykah Guerrero hit a sac fly to right field as Brooks scored and UTSA took the lead, 2-1. In the bottom of the frame, WKU tied the game with a run from three hits.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Toppers took the lead (3-2) with a single run.
 
Freshman Tatum Seith started the game, pitching 4.0 innings with two strikeouts. Jamie Gilbert and Clarissa Hernandez also made appearances, pitching 1.2 and 0.1 innings, respectively.
 
UTSA finished the season leading the conference in home runs with 53 and Riley Grunberg currently leading with 14 alone among players.
 
The Roadrunners posted a 15-31 overall record and 8-12 in conference play.
