LA Tech sweeps UTSA on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team dropped to 1-3 in conference action after Louisiana Tech swept Saturday's doubleheader at Roadrunner Field.
 
Game one
The Roadrunners scored all six runs on homers in an 8-6 loss to the Lady Techsters.
 
LA Tech was on the board early with a solo home run to start the game.
 
In the second, Marena Estell opened with a walk and Madison Washington stepped up and hit a home run to right center as UTSA led 2-1.
 
The Roadrunners scored two more in the third to extend the lead. Kindell Brooks singled up the middle, then reached second on a passed ball. With two outs, Washington hit her second homer of the game to center field to lead 4-1.
 
Following a 1-2-3 inning, Kat Ibarra hit a solo home run to left field in the fourth (5-1).
 
The Lady Techsters scored three runs in the top of the fifth off two hits as they trailed 5-4. In the bottom of the frame, Estell smacked the ball over the center field wall for her first home run of the season.
 
In the seventh, LA Tech scored four runs from three hits and two errors to take the lead, 8-6, and garner the game.
 
The Roadrunners recorded eight hits with Washington leading the team with three.
 
Madison Nelson earned the start, pitching 4.2 innings with three strikeouts. Estell also made an appearance in the circle for 1.1 inning and Clarissa Hernandez pitched the final inning.
 
Game two
UTSA dropped a 4-2 decision to Louisiana Tech in game four of the series.
 
The game started slow until each team scored a run in the third. In the top of the frame, the Lady Techsters scored off two hits to take the lead (1-0). With one out, Lourdes Bacon singled to left and Kat Ibarra reached on a fielder's choice. Ibarra advanced to second as Celeste Loughman earned a walk. Riley Grunberg stepped up and hit a single to second base as Ibarra scored and tied the game, 1-1.
 
The Roadrunners took the lead in the sixth. Washington opened with a walk and Brooks followed with a single to left field. With two outs and runners on first and second, Brittany Coe doubled to left center as Mata (pinch runner) scored to lead 2-1. A ground out and a flyout ended the inning.
 
In the top of the seventh, LA Tech scored three runs from a single and two home runs to clinch the game.
 
UTSA put up eight runs on the day.
 
Freshman Jamie Gilbert pitched 6.1 innings with three strikeouts before Makenzie Carpenter came in for 0.2 innings.
 
The Roadrunners return to action April 10-11 when they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. To take on Southern Miss.
