Roadrunners split doubleheader with Lady Techsters in conference opener

SAN ANTONIO – The Roadrunners and the Lady Techsters split Friday's doubleheader at Roadrunner Field.
 
Game one
Four runs in the top of the seventh helped Louisiana Tech take game one with an 8-4 win.
 
The Lady Techsters were on the board first with three runs off three hits in the top of the fourth.
 
La Tech extended its lead with another run in the fifth.
 
UTSA scored all four runs in the sixth. Marena Estell singled up the middle, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Taylor Medina reached on an error as Estell reached third. On a ground out, Estell reached home to put the Roadrunners on the board. Kat Ibarra followed with a single as Medina scored (4-2). Celeste Loughman homered to right center to scored Ibarra and tie the game 4-4.
 
In the seventh, the Lady Techsters scored four more runs off three hits to take the game.
 
UTSA recorded seven hits on the day. Clarissa Hernandez earned the start, pitching 5.0 innings with three strikeouts. Alex Williams came in for the final two innings and posted two strikeouts.
 
Game two
UTSA defeated Louisiana Tech 17-2 in five innings to split the doubleheader.
 
The Roadrunners were on the board early with three runs in the first. Celeste Loughman opened the game with a solo homer to left center. Brittany Coe and Kindell Brooks had back-to-back singles and Marena Estell reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Madison Washington earned a walk and Taylor Medina singled as Estell and Brooks scored to lead 3-0.
 
In the second, UTSA scored five more runs to extend the lead. Lourdes Bacon earned a walk and Kat Ibarra followed with a single. Brittany Coe hit a ground out as runners advanced and Bacon scored (4-0). Kindell Brooks earned a walk to load the bases. Estell walked as Ibarra scored (5-0). Washington singled as Loughman reached home and Medina followed with a double to score Estell and Brooks as the Roadrunners led 8-0.
 
The Lady Techsters scored a run in the top of the third from a solo homer. In the bottom of the frame, UTSA scored nine more runs. Ibarra opened with a single and Loughman followed with a home run to center field as the Roadrunners led 10-1. Riley Grunberg walked, Brittany Coe reached on a fielder's choice and Brooks singled. With one out and runners on first and second, Estell singled to load the bases. Washington reached on a fielder's choice as Coe scored on an error (11-1).  Medina reached on an error as runners advanced and Brooks scored (12-1). A single from Bacon scored Estell to lead 13-1. With bases loaded, Ibarra homered to center field for her first career home run and a grand slam as UTSA led 17-1. After clearing the bases, Loughman walked, then stole second to break the school record.
 
In the top of the seventh, LA Tech recorded another solo home run to close out the game.
 
UTSA posted 13 hits on the day with Ibarra leading the team with four.
 
Tatum Seith pitched all five innings with three strikeouts.
 
The Roadrunners and the Lady Techsters return to the field tomorrow for another doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
