SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team dropped a 6-3 decision to McNeese State Wednesday evening at Roadrunner Field.
The Cowgirls scored a run in the first four innings to take an early 4-0 lead.
McNeese scored two more runs in the fifth to lead 6-2. In the bottom of the frame, Taylor Medina hit a solo home run to left field to put the Roadrunners on the board (6-1).
In the sixth, Celeste Loughman opened with a single to right field. Riley Grunberg reached on a fielder's choice and Madison Washington was walked to load the bases. Marena Estell singled to right as Loughman reached home (6-2). Two strikeouts and a ground out ended the inning.
With two outs, Loughman hit a solo homer in the seventh to close the gap to three, 6-3, but a grounded ended the game.
UTSA recorded five hits on the day.
Tatum Seith earned the start, pitching 3.0 innings and Madison Nelson came in for the final four innings and had one strikeout.
The Roadrunners return to the field this weekend when they host UAB.
