AUSTIN - The UTSA softball team fell to the Longhorns and the Coyotes on Saturday at the Bevo Classic.
Game One: Texas
The Roadrunners dropped an 8-0 loss to No. 8 Texas Saturday afternoon.
The Longhorns scored early with a run in the bottom of the first.
In the second, Texas scored four runs on three hits to push the lead to five (5-0).
The Longhorns added three more runs in the fourth from a three-run homer to lead 8-0.
The Roadrunners recorded three hits on the day.
Two pitchers made an appearance for UTSA. Makenzie Carpenter started, pitching 1.1 innings and Alexis Williams followed, pitching 2.1 innings with one strikeout.
Game Two: South Dakota
Two runs in the sixth boosted a 6-5 South Dakota win over the Roadrunners.
The Coyotes scored first with three runs in the top of the second.
UTSA got on the board in the third. Kat Ibarra earned a walk to open the inning. Celeste Loughman and Riley Grunberg had back-to-back singles to load the bases. Brittany Coe stepped up to the plate and reached first on a fielder's choice to score Ibarra. Madison Washington also reached on a fielder's choice as Loughman scored and Coe was thrown out at third. A flyout closed the inning as the Roadrunners trailed 3-2.
USD added another run in the fourth to extend the lead by one (4-2).
The Roadrunners took the lead in the sixth from four hits and an error. Kindell Brooks started with a single to center field. With two outs on the board, Ibarra tripled to right field as Brooks reached home (4-3). Ibarra then scored on a throwing error to tie the game 4-4. Loughman singled and Grunberg doubled as Loughman scored to lead 5-4.
In the top of the seventh, the Coyotes regained the lead (6-5) from three hits.
Madison Nelson earned the start, pitching 2.0 innings. Tatum Seith (4.1) and Clarissa Hernandez (0.2) also made appearances. UTSA recorded eight hits against USD.
The Roadrunners open C-USA action April 2-3 when they host Louisiana Tech.
