STILLWATER, Okla. – Celeste Loughman broke the school record for triples as UTSA fell to Wichita State and Oklahoma State on Friday at the Mizuno Classic.
Game one: Wichita State
UTSA dropped a 4-2 decision to Wichita State Friday afternoon.
The Shockers were on the board first with two runs in the top of the third. In the bottom of the frame, Kat Ibarra earned a walk to get on base. Celeste Loughman followed with a triple to right center to score Ibarra as the Roadrunners trailed 2-1.
Both teams scored one run each in the sixth. WSU scored a run off two walks and a single. Madison Washington opened with a single to shortstop. Tori Villarreal was hit by a pitch as Washington advanced to second. With two outs, Lauren Coerver and Kat Ibarra earned back-to-back walks as Washington scored (3-2).
In the top of the seventh, the Shockers scored one more run off two hits to take the game.
UTSA recorded four hits on the day. Jamie Gilbert earned the start, pitching 4.0 innings with two strikeouts. Clarissa Hernandez came in for the final 3.0 innings and posted four strikeouts.
Game two: Oklahoma State
The Roadrunners fell to No. 8 Oklahoma State 11-2 in a five-inning run rule game.
The Cowgirls were on the board in the second with four runs from three hits.
OSU added four more runs in the third to extend the leave to seven, 7-0.
In the top of the fourth, Riley Grunberg opened with a walk. With one out, Madison Washington homered to right field to put UTSA on the board (7-2). In the bottom of the frame, the Cowgirls scored four more runs from five hits to garner the game.
Four pitchers made an appearance for UTSA. Madison Nelson started, pitching 2.0 innings, while Clarissa Hernandez (0.1), Marena Estell (1.0) and Makenzie Carpenter (0.2) followed.
The Roadrunners are back in action tomorrow when they take on Wichita State (11 a.m.) and Kansas City (1:30 p.m.).
