UTSA men’s tennis honored as ITA All-Academic Team

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis team has been honored by the International Tennis Association with the All-Academic Team award, it was announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.

The Roadrunners were eligible for the honor after boasting a team GPA of 3.32 last year.

"I am very proud of the team effort to achieve our academic goals this year," UTSA head coach Sergey Avdeyev said. "This honor is a reflection of their discipline and hard work on and off the court."

Four Roadrunners boast cumulative GPAs over 3.4 at the conclusion of the 2019-20 academic year, including senior Kai Breitbach (3.54, finance major), senior Patrick Poestinger (3.58, information systems and cyber security), senior Juri Reckow (3.4, economics) and freshman Sebastian Rodriguez (3.55, business).

UTSA posted a five-win season in the shortened debut of the Avdeyev era in 2020. The Roadrunners were led by the dynamic performance of Reckow, who went 9-0 in his 10 singles matches to headline the lineup and earn All-Conference USA accolades. Rodriguez, who joined his brother Javier Rodriguez – a junior – on the roster in 2020, claimed C-USA Freshman of the Year honors.
