ARLINGTON, Texas – Jacob Jimenez and David Moffat matched each other pitch-for-pitch through the first six innings of Sunday's series finale between UTSA and UT Arlington at Clay Gould Field.
Scoreless through seven, both teams threatened in the eighth with a baserunner reaching third with less than two outs. The Roadrunners (10-6) were denied their opportunity and bequeathed the lone marker in a 1-0 setback to the Mavericks (12-3) on a throwing error.
In his second career start for the Roadrunners Jimenez tossed a career high 6.1 innings, scattering three hits, two walks and fanning four. Moffat continued to smother UTSA's offense, retiring the first 17 batters he faced. With two outs in the top of the sixth, Ryan Bishop broke up the perfect game when he found the right-center gap for his first double of the season.
After allowing a single and a walk to the first three batters, Jimenez locked in and sat down 17 of the next 19 batters he faced and 18 of the final 21. With one on a runner on, the Roadrunners called on Hunter Mason from the bullpen. He worked himself in and out of trouble, keeping things deadlocked.
Jonathan Tapia led off the eighth by dumping a single in front of the right fielder and swiped second. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Joshua Lamb but was unable to crack the score board. A free pass with two outs in the final frame went by the wayside for UTSA.
