UTSA suffers setback at UTA Friday

ARLINGTON, Texas – A quartet of multi-run innings by UT Arlington was too much for UTSA to overcome in a 10-4 loss at Clay Gould Ballpark Friday.

The Roadrunners (10-4) struck first with two in the third when Joshua Lamb got things started with a walk. He moved to third on a single by Leyton Barry, who advanced 90 feet on the throw. A Texas Leaguer off the bat of Dylan Rock fell between three defenders behind second, scoring Lamb. Griffin Paxton roped one past the hurler's ear and into second, plating Barry.

UTA (10-3) answered with four in the bottom of the fourth. A hit batsman, a walk and a single through the 5.6 hole loaded the bags. The Mavericks cashed in with a single down the right-field line and a double down the left-field line.

A two-out single by Shane Sirdashney in the sixth inched the guests within a run when Jonathan Tapia crossed the dish.

The Mavericks resounding response materialized in the form of a no-doubt home run off the bat of Anthony Dominguez, accounting for a trio of markers. A trifecta of free passes and a trio of knocks tacked on a second three-spot in consecutive frames.

In the eighth, Chase Keng recorded an RBI single, scoring Nick Thornquist but UTA reciprocated with another three-run frame in succession.

The Roadrunners never-quit attitude was relevant in their final at-bat, scoring three runs on three hits and an error by the host.
