SAN MARCOS, Texas – Lauren Coerver and Riley Grunberg had solo home runs in a 4-3 loss at Texas State Thursday night.
UTSA falls to 4-3, while the Bobcats improves to 3-2 on the season.
In the bottom of the first, Texas State scored a run from an error and a single to get on the board early.
The Roadrunners tied the game at one in the top of the third. Celeste Loughman opened with a walk and Madison Washington followed with a single to center field as Loughman advanced to third. Kindell Brooks hit a sac fly to score Loughman and tie the game.
The Bobcats added another run off two errors and a single in the fourth to take the lead once again (2-1).
In the top of the fifth, Riley Grunberg hit a solo home run to center field to tie the game back up (2-2).
Lauren Coerver opened the top of the sixth as UTSA led 3-2. In the bottom of the frame, a Bobcat home run tied the game at three.
Two singles, an intentional walk, an error and a wild pitch helped Texas State add another run in the bottom of the seventh to take the win.
Erika Cortez falls to 1-2 on the season. The freshman pitched 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts.
The Roadrunners return to the field tomorrow when they face Wichita State at 2:30 p.m.
