Roadrunners fall to Miners

El PASO, Texas – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped a 54-94 decision at UTEP Saturday afternoon at the Don Haskins Center.
 
The Roadrunners fall to 6-10 on the season and 2-3 in C-USA action, while the Miners improve to 11-5 and 4-1.
 
UTEP put the first points on the board off two free throws to start the game. Timea Toth scored first for the Roadrunners at the 7:45 mark as they trailed 2-4. Both teams continued to score, but UTSA never allowed the Miners to get ahead more than six until the 3:34 mark when UTEP made a 3-pointer to increase the lead by seven (10-17). Karrington Donald made back-to-back shots to bring the Roadrunners within three (14-17), but a 6-0 run from UTEP pushed the lead to nine as the Miners led 23-14 after the first.
 
Through the first half of the second quarter, the Miners went on a 17-5 run as they led 38-19. Charlene Mass scored seven points in the last five minutes of the quarter, but it wasn't enough to close the gap as UTEP led 55-28 at the half.
 
Coming out of the locker room, UTEP scored four points in the first minute to lead 59-28. The Roadrunners came out strong, never allowing the Miners to score more than four points before finding the basket themselves. UTSA scored 15 points and shot 33.3 percent from the field. The Roadrunners forced six turnovers and recorded four steals in the quarter as UTEP led 76-43 going to the final frame.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Miners opened with an 11-5 run over the first six minutes to lead 87-48. In the final four minutes of the game, both teams scored a total of 13 points as UTEP garnered the win.
