SAN ANTONIO – Freshman Adryana Quezada recorded her first career double-double with 26 points and 17 rebounds to help the Roadrunners defeat USW 79-62.
UTSA improves to 3-1 on the season, while USW falls to 1-6.
Karrington Donald opened the game with a jumper to put the first points on the board and start a 6-0 run. Both teams battled for the ball throughout the quarter as the Roadrunners led 17-10, with a 41.2 field goal percentage, after the first.
The Roadrunners stepped up their shooting in the second quarter, opening with an 8-0 run and scoring 25 points. Adryana Quezada recorded 12 of the points to help UTSA lead by 16 at the half (42-26) as it shot 55 percent from the field.
In the third quarter, the Roadrunners and the Mustangs continued to battle for the ball as it went back and forth down the court. UTSA scored another 25-point quarter and shot 47.4 percent from the field. Timea Toth and Charlene Mass led the team, scoring seven points each. The Roadrunners led 67-46 going to the final 10 minutes.
USW outscored UTSA 16-12 in the fourth quarter, but eight points from Quezada helped the Roadrunners remain in the lead and garner the win.
UTSA returns to action at the Bank of Hawaii Classic Nov. 22-24. The Roadrunners will face Hawaii on Friday and Utah on Sunday.
